What Is Spray-On Foam Insulation?

Spray-on foam is an energy efficient insulation.Spray-polyurethane foam (SPF) is a spray-applied plastic. It provides continuous insulation and air-sealing barriers for walls, roofs, contoured surfaces and around corners. This type of insulation is resistant to heat transfers and is an energy-efficient way to reduce air leaks from cracks or seams.

How Is Spray Foam Made?

Spray-foam insulation is created by mixing liquid components to create the foam. The liquids react when mixed, and they quickly expand on contact. We then apply it to insulate, seal gaps, and form moisture and vapor barriers.

Three main types of spray foam insulation are available:

  • High Density: This is commonly used for roofing or other exterior applications.
  • Medium Density: This is often used to fill interior cavities, provide continuous insulation, or to protect unvented attics.
  • Low Density: This is most often used on interior cavities and unvented attics.

Each SPF product has distinct benefits. We can look at your space and determine which product will best work for your building.

Spray-Foam Insulation Is Incredibly Energy Efficient

Did you know that as much as 40% of a building’s energy is lost through gaps, holes, and air leaks? This wastes energy and drives utility bills up. Spray foam closes the gaps that allow air to leak, saving you money.

Some of the most common areas to apply SPF are around windows and doors, plumbing vents, recessed lights, ducts, wiring holes, and attic hatches. There are also “cool roofs” that are designed to maintain temperatures lower than traditional roofing. Cool roofs are light and reflect sunlight. If spray foam is applied to a roof, it will not require metal fastening which can cause thermal shorts or bridges that allow heat in.

SPF Increases Building Strength

SPF roofing systems can make a building more durable. SPF’s strong bond protects the roof and makes it last longer, sometimes more than 30 years. It helps eliminate water seepage in weak spots. During high winds, a roof treated with SPF will often sustain less damage than traditional roofing. The spray-foam insulation essentially “glues” the whole building together.

SPF Can Improve Indoor Comfort of Your Space

You spend a lot of time in your home or business. Keeping yourself, your family, and your employees comfortable is essential. SPF will not only prevent drafts, but it will also provide better control of indoor temperatures and outside noise. SPF barricades dust and pollen, great news for those who suffer from seasonal allergies.

Spray foam is a great investment for your home or business. It provides the opportunity to increase efficiency, reduce air loss, and lower utility bills. Contact Spray-On Foam today to learn how we can help you.
