Moisture in a warehouse or storage facility can quickly become a big headache. Water damages your building and wrecks your inventory. Ever-present water can lead to mold and mildew, which, at best is unpleasant and at worst harms your employees’ health.
Prevent Moisture in Your Warehouse or Storage Unit Business
A leaking roof or plumbing can lead to water damage, but often the culprit is condensation. If your warehouse is a metal building, you can reduce the humidity and prevent condensation with an application of spray foam insulation.
Metal buildings and structures with metal roofs are among the most affordable and durable choices for a warehouse and is often the material storage units are constructed from. However, buildings made from metal must be properly insulated. If the building doesn’t have insulation, the interior may get humid.
Spray Foam Insulation Is a Cost-Effective Solution
Spray foam insulation is an affordable way to tackle this problem. Metal warehouses, shops, and storage facilities often suffer from inadequate insulation.
Without insulation, these buildings can begin to “sweat.” Heating the air may further exacerbate the humidity. When air heats up, it rises. The warmth could come from heaters, computers, machinery, or a lot of busy workers.
The warm air rises, carrying moisture to the metal roof. When the air touches the uninsulated metal, moisture condenses on the material. If enough water collects, it can rain from the ceiling or drip down the walls. The water may pool on the floor and run onto your inventory. It may seep into machinery or storage shelves. This can be incredibly damaging to property, equipment, and the building itself.
Insulation will end this cycle. By spraying a layer of foam, as little as an inch, the ceiling will remain warm. Water will no longer form on the metal.
If you want your warehouse to be more comfortable for your workers, we might recommend a thicker application of spray foam insulation. About 2 inches of foam will keep your building warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
Additional Benefits of Spray Foam Insulation
We can protect your property further by applying a fire prevention treatment. In addition to making your building warmer and dryer, spray foam insulation has the following benefits:
- Reduces risk of rust and corrosion from humidity
- Prevents standing water on floors
- Improves indoor air quality
- Keeps condensed water from dripping onto electricals
- Keeps mold and mildew from damaging your building
